Mogar Dal with Jeera Rice

Ingredients
- Moong dal - 1 cup (washed & drained)
- Oil- 1 tbsp
- Garlic cloves - 3-4 (sliced lengthwise)
- Green chillies - 1-2
- Asafoetida (hing) - ¼ tsp
- Salt- to taste
- Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
- Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
- Coriander powder - 2 tsp
- Water - 2 cups
- Lemon juice - half a lemon
- Fresh coriander leaves (chopped)- 1 tbsp
Method
- Add salt along with turmeric powder, red chilli powder & coriander powder into the moong dal bowl and mix all together. Keep aside.
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker, once hot add sliced garlic & sauté till golden brown.
- Add green chillies & give a stir.
- Add hing & let it fragrant.
- Now, add the moong dal to the cooker and sauté for a couple of mins.
- Once you see oil is released on the sides, add the water and give a stir.
- Close the cooker with its lid and give one whistle.
- Let the pressure release completely then open the lid.
- With the help of a wooden churner (mathani), churn the dal a little to get the perfect consistency.
- Squeeze lemon juice and give a stir.
- Add freshly chopped coriander and give a stir. Transfer it to a serving bowl.
- Now, to complete a meal let's pair our delicious mogar dal with Jeera Rice.
For Jeera Rice
Ingredients
- Basmati rice (boiled) - 1.5 cups
- Ghee - 1 tbsp
- Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
- Black peppercorns- 3-4
- Star anise - 2
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Salt- to taste
Method:
- Heat ghee in a kadhai over medium heat & add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Now, add peppercorns along with star anise & cinnamon, and sauté them till fragrant.
- Add boiled rice and toss everything together.
- Season with salt and give a toss. Let it cook for a couple of minutes on low flame so all the flavours of spices will infuse in the rice.
- Transfer the rice in a serving platter.
Garnish the mogar dal with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot along with Jeera Rice.
