Daal Masoor Recipe

Ingredients for Daal Masoor recipe:

  • 1 cup masoor daal (red lentils)
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 1 medium tomato (chopped)
  • 4-5 green chilies (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup fresh coriander (chopped)

To temper daal masoor:

  • 2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter) / oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • pinch of asafetida

Recipe: Wash the daal and soak it for 20-30 minutes. In a deep pan, add water, drained daal, salt, turmeric, onion, tomato, and green chilies. Mix and cook while covered for 20-25 minutes. For the tempering, heat ghee, add cumin seeds and asafetida. After the daal is cooked, add the tempering with fresh coriander on top. Serve hot with rice or naan.
