Method
To make Ragi Upma, start by taking one cup of sprouted ragi flour in a bowl. Gradually add water and mix until you achieve a crumble-like texture. This forms the base for your upma. Next, take a steamer plate, apply a little oil, and spread the ragi flour evenly. Steam cook the flour for about 10 minutes.
Once it's steamed, transfer the ragi flour to a bowl and set it aside. In a wide pan, heat two tablespoons of oil. Once hot, add one teaspoon each of chana dal and urad dal along with one tablespoon of peanuts. Roast them until they turn golden brown.
Add half a teaspoon of mustard seeds, half a teaspoon of cumin seeds, a pinch of asafoetida, a few fresh curry leaves, and some finely chopped ginger to the pan. Sauté the mixture briefly. Then, add one chopped onion and six slit green chillies. Stir in a quarter teaspoon of turmeric powder and one teaspoon of salt to the mix.
Next, add half a cup of freshly grated coconut and give it a good mix. Incorporate the steamed ragi flour into the mixture and combine everything well. To finish, add a teaspoon of ghee. Your healthy and delicious Ragi Upma is now ready to be served hot!
