  • pacha payaru
  • coriander seeds
  • red chillies
  • pepper
  • curry leaves
  • tomato
  • tamarind water
  • onion
  • garlic
  • coconut
  • ginger
  • fenugreek seeds
  • oil
  • mustard
  • cumin
  • asafetida
  • salt

Kara Kulambu Recipe:

Kara kulambu is a spicy and tangy South Indian gravy made from various spices, tamarind, and vegetables. Here is a simple recipe for kara kulambu with pacha payaru (green gram).

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, cumin, asafetida, and curry leaves.
  2. Add diced onion, chopped tomato, and garlic. Saute until they turn soft.
  3. Grind coconut, ginger, and all the spices to a smooth paste.
  4. Add the paste to the pan and fry for a few minutes.
  5. Then add the tamarind water, salt, and let it boil.
  6. Once it starts boiling, add the cooked green gram to the gravy.
  7. Simmer the kara kulambu until it reaches the desired consistency.
  8. Serve hot with rice or idli.
