Ingredients

  • 1 cup basil seeds (sabja seeds)
  • 2 cups almond milk (or any milk of choice)
  • 1/2 cup sweetener (honey, maple syrup, or a sugar substitute)
  • 1/4 cup cooked basmati rice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • Chopped nuts (almonds, pistachios) for garnishing
  • Fresh fruits for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soak basil seeds in water for about 30 minutes until they swell and turn gelatinous. Drain the excess water and set aside.
  2. In a pot, bring the almond milk to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  3. Add the sweetener of your choice to the boiling almond milk, stirring continuously until fully dissolved.
  4. Mix in the soaked basil seeds, cooked basmati rice, and cardamom powder. Simmer the mixture for 5-10 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove from heat and let it cool down to room temperature.
  6. Once cooled, serve in bowls or dessert cups. Garnish with chopped nuts and fresh fruits if desired.
  7. Refrigerate for an hour before serving for a refreshing treat.
